Korowai - Feathered Cloak

Korowai today have many colours, patterns and designs on them, it is hard to keep up.

A korowai in the old days was given as a gift to our visitors and for many it was about ranking of our chiefs or people with each rohe (area).

Here we have 2 girls who made their korowai with their grandmother. They used their favourite colours and what a beautiful effort they have made.

Our students in W22 made their korowai with Whaea Mary (our student teacher), I am amazed with their kupu (words) they used and colours to decorate their feathers also.

If you are free tomorrow, come down and watch our school Kapa Haka group perform from 11.30 onwards.
